AWS announced the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional with a beta at re:Invent on November 7, 2014 (beta Nov 10–14 and then globally through mid‑December), and the exam became publicly available on February 18, 2015; in 2019 AWS updated its Professional‑level exams, restructuring the DevOps exam’s content into six domains and shifting Associate‑level certifications from a prerequisite to a recommendation. On January 31, 2023 AWS opened registration for the updated AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (DOP‑C02), noting that candidates could take the then‑current exam (DOP‑C01) through March 6, 2023 and the updated exam starting March 7, 2023, with content realigned to the AWS Well‑Architected Framework and delivered via Pearson VUE in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese; as of April 9, 2026, DOP‑C02 remains the active exam guide in AWS Documentation.
