Exam history

CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006, V8) launched on July 15, 2025, succeeding V7 (XK0-005) and continuing the program’s shift since 2019 from the former two‑exam, LPI‑powered track to a single CompTIA‑developed exam.

Last reviewed: 2026-04-10

Prior to 2019, CompTIA Linux+ was delivered as two exams aligned with LPI; in April 2019 CompTIA introduced Linux+ XK0-004 as a single, independently developed exam, and the legacy “Powered by LPI” track was formally retired on October 1, 2019. ([comptia.org](https://www.comptia.org/en-us/blog/all-about-linux-and-linux-2019-refresh-/?utm_source=openai))

Linux+ V7 (XK0-005) followed with a launch on July 12, 2022; its English version retired on January 13, 2026, with Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish available until April 14, 2026. The current Linux+ V8 (XK0-006) launched on July 15, 2025, replacing V7; as of April 10, 2026 no formal retirement date has been announced, though CompTIA notes retirements typically occur about three years after launch (estimated 2028).
